David R. Lucas, Esq.

Dave Lucas combines a passion for the law and a compassion for his clients in a legal practice that stands apart as a modern firm with deep roots in the community it serves.

Dave is an established, well-regarded attorney and litigator who founded the Lucas Law Group in 2013 to provide skilled, personalized and local legal services to the families and businesses who are his North Shore neighbors. Dave oversees the more complex litigation and related matters within the firm.

As an attorney, Dave’s philosophy is to treat every client as a member of the family. His compassion for his clients and the results he achieves for them are reflected in the praise and referrals they offer.

Along with entrepreneurs, homebuyers, professionals and families, his clients include the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts, a 25,000-member fraternal organization, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He handled legal matters for the City of Melrose for over 15 years and assisted in drafting many of its zoning ordinances and liquor licensing regulations.

Admitted to practice law in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire, he started his legal career at the Wakefield-based Nigro, Pettepit & Lucas, LLP, where he partnered with his father, the late Robert F. Lucas.

Dave is a familiar face in the Massachusetts and North Shore legal community. He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the New Hampshire Bar Association, the Middlesex County and Essex County Bar Associations, and the First District Eastern Middlesex Bar Association, of which he is a past president. He has served for many years as a court-appointed conciliator for the Middlesex County courts and is regularly appointed as an independent fiduciary by many judges in contested estates and trusts. In addition, he has served more than once as a member of the Hearing Committee of the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers and is a gubernatorial-appointee as Public Administrator for Middlesex County, where he oversees the estates of the deceased with no heirs. He graduated from Suffolk University Law School in Boston and received his undergraduate in philosophy and psychology at Syracuse University in New York.

Dave is also giving of his time and legal services to his community. Dave is a director of Melrose Congregational Retirement Homes, Inc. and a trustee of the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund. He has served local youth and their families as a children’s educator at the First United Methodist Church, as coach of the Mock Trial Team at Malden Catholic High School, and as a girls’ and boys’ basketball coach.

Dave doesn’t just “play” a lawyer in real life – he even plays one on screen. His past roles include the 2017 John Curran film, “Chappaquiddick”, as a member of Senator Ted Kennedy’s legal team and a legal consultant to the director. Dave and his wife, Melissa, live in Melrose with their two children.
