Middlesex Probate Court Moves to Electronic Filing

It’s finally happened! Middlesex County Probate & Family Court has “relocated” down to Electric Avenue. The Probate Court in Cambridge is now accepting electronic filings of all estates, guardianships, conservatorships and other matters. If you have ever served as an executor or personal representative of an estate, you know that the courts can take weeks to issue an appointment letter. In Middlesex County, more particularly, this regularly took months.

With electronic filing, we are confident that the waiting period for court orders and decisions will be reduced by several weeks. And by the way, although we really hate to brag about being a modern, state of the art, next generation law firm…

Guess which law office was the first in the world to electronically file a Petition for Probate of a Will with the Middlesex Probate & Family Court? Correct! We at Lucas Law Group would like to thank Middlesex County Register of Probate Tara DeCristofaro for her personal telephone call today, informing us that we completed the Court’s first ever electronic filing, and asking us for our feedback on the filing process.

The Probate Courts in Massachusetts are incredibly backlogged, and this new procedure is sure to cut down the waiting time for our clients. Congratulations to Ms. DeCristofaro’s office for implementing this new procedure!

By the way, if you want to avoid Probate Court altogether, let us draft a Trust for you! Read more about Trusts HERE.
